Patricia Wanjama is a seasoned commercial lawyer with more than 15 years of legal proficiency in Corporate Law. She has practised as an in-house lawyer in two very dynamic financial services firms where she gained significant experience in Capital Markets and Real Estate. She is also well-honed in Capital Markets Law, Company Law, and Governance Practice, beyond Corporate Secretarial work.

Patricia possesses great relationship management skills and is an excellent administrator known for pushing for execution. Her prowess has benefitted the firm by way of greater client acquisition, client management, and client retention. She is keen on efficient workspaces and teams so that the entire collective works at its best potential for the benefit of both the client and the firm.

Acting as partner, she has closed out significant firm policies, leading to clarity around compensation of the advocates. She has also initiated brand building activities and connected with key clients, leading to repeat business. Her proudest moment at KN Law LLP has been building an entirely new brand – the Company Secretarial Services arm of the firm – and branding it. Her ambition as a lawyer is to see the practice of law reach its full potential as a social and moral compass for clients. The part she plays in the Corporate and Governance legal space fully identifies with that.

Patricia is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a Notary Public, a Certified Public Secretary and a Governance Auditor. She is an LL. B alumnus of the University of Nairobi and holds an Executive MBA from Strathmore Business School.

• Acted as the lead in-house lawyer in the structuring of the first cash management solution, a structured investment product, for two fund management companies.
• Involved as part of the core team in setting up various real estate joint ventures, which connected landowners/developers to diverse funding, raising a total of USD 115mn.
• Lead in-house counsel that structured a real estate-backed equity-linked rental income note, converting a fully leased commercial building into a rental income note for high net-worth clients.
• Lead In-house counsel in raising real estate finance with a Nasdaq-listed Private Equity firm, through the set-up of equity-linked loan notes worth approximately USD 15mn.
• Involved as part of the core team in the purchase of a 12.5% equity stake of Superior Homes (Kenya) Plc by Cytonn Investments Management Plc.
• Involved as lead legal counsel in the purchase of a 25% stake in Acorn Holdings Limited by Britam Holdings.
• Lead legal advisor on the conversion of Cytonn Investments Management from a private company to a public (unlisted) company.
• Acted as Company Secretary to several Boards under a matrix board structure; including coming up with a Governance Framework, Developing an Annual work Plan, Conducting Board Training and Inductions, Overseeing Board Evaluations, Maintaining the Share Register, and organizing the Annual General Meetings.
• Acted as the regional legal counsel executing the expansion strategy for Britam Holdings, into Uganda, South Sudan, and Rwanda.
• Advised on and registered trademarks, deposited copyright works for authentication, registered domain names including defending clients against various intellectual property matters including against cybersquatting of domain names and passing off of trademarks.
